Matte-r than Matte, Matte-r than you ever can imagine: LASplash Liquid Lipstick Review!

la_splash_cosmetics

Always a fan of nude matte lips, I have spent years looking for that perfect formula at an affordable cost, when one day whilst browsing my beloved YouTube, I came across Donovan Gibb. King of the lip swatch and review, and as of last year lip model to the amazing Nudestix, he recommended I try some of the LASplash liquid lipsticks (for those who are liquid lipstick virgins, this is the amazing formulation of lip product that glides on like a gloss but gives the opaque finish of a lipstick, mostly offering a beautiful matte finish), and of course I couldn’t resist but oblige…

The Company:

LASplash Cosmetics is an American company that was founded in 1996 and run by mother and daughter duo, Kathi and Brianna. Their aim: – to create the most colourful and high quality cosmetics.

Where to buy in the UK:

Although you can buy LASplash cosmetics directly from their website, there is a hefty $27.95 delivery charge per order (which includes insurance). Fortunately they also have a range of authorised online retailers here in the UK:

Cocktail Cosmetics

Love Makeup

Beauty Bay

I purchased my liquid lipsticks from Beautybay, as they appear to have the largest range. Delivery is free if you spend more than £15, which is great as its tracked and super quick!

The Cost:

The LASplash liquid lipstick range costs £9.95 per liquid lip, which although not cheap is pretty reasonable.

On this occasion, I managed to purchase mine when Beautybay was offering a 20% off sale on LASplash cosmetics – total result! So make sure you look around before purchasing as you may find a deal.

The Lipstick Collections:

LASplash offer six lip lines:

  • Angels vs. Sinners: Lip-gloss (*New and only available in the US at present)
  • Lip Couture: Lightweight, highly pigmented liquid lipstick
  • Smitten: Lightweight, velvet matte liquid lipstick
  • StudioShine: Waterproof matte lip lustre
  • Forbidden Kiss: Matte lip stain
  • Velvet Matte: Super soft, velvet matte lipstick

The Packaging:

I purchased seven lipsticks from two collections: Lip Couture and Velvet Matte.

These come in two styles: clear tube (3ml) – for Lip Couture and frosted tube (3ml) – for Velvet Matte.

The velvet matte range dons rose gold writing and lid, whereas the lip couture range is embellished with gold finishing’s. Both offer the lipstick shade and code on the underside of the tube.

The Velvet Matte’s:

Beauty Bay offer the following description for the velvet matte collection:

Dessert inspired, LASplash’s Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick is transfer proof and long lasting for flawless all day wear. With a doe foot wand, application is made easy and precise for a perfectly defined pout

The Lip Couture’s:

Beauty Bay offer the following description for the lip couture collection:

Giving incredibly even colour in just one sweep, the Lip Couture Waterproof Matte Liquid Lipsticks also offer long lasting coverage with a velvety matte finish. The smooth texture allows for complete control and precision whilst applying, helping you to deliver a perfected look that won’t budge

Formula, Colour Pigment and Longevity

First off, the scent of both these formulas are rather off putting. They smell extremely chemically when first opened. However, although rather distasteful, the scent doesn’t last long and disappears when applied to the lips (thankfully!!).

All seven lipsticks have a soft and creamy texture when first applied to the lip; the velvet matte collection is slightly smoother in application especially with the softer almond shaped applicator. Both go onto the lip wet and take a minute or so to dry completely matte.

Colour pay off for these liquid lipsticks is beautiful! Completely opaque with one layer, amazing! The lighter shades are worth going over with a second coat just to ensure that all the cracks in your lips are filled properly.

Now these liquid lipsticks last F.O.R.E.V.E.R literally! The longevity is nothing like I have seen before – I had a couple on for over 8 hours and still they were going strong! However, like all matte lipsticks, they unfortunately do crack towards the end of the day, especially the lighter colours and I found that reapplication is definitely a no-go as it becomes cakey really easily. So try to keep your lips well-moisturised and exfoliated before application – I use Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm. Longevity is not as good when worn as a gloss (i.e. when a lip-gloss is applied on top of the liquid lipstick). However, it offers a beautiful finish and prevents that cracking that we all dread – so great if you want a gloss with the same colour payoff! I love to use my Gerard Cosmetics Butter Cream Gloss to change it up a bit.

OVERALL VERDICT:

I must say I really do love these liquid lipsticks; I am a nude ADDICT, therefore my collection obviously resembles my obsession. However, I would definitely be tempted to try LASplash’s more dramatic colours now that I know the nudes are a winner.

While I have to say that I am also a nude person myself- partially because nudes are so convenient for day time looks- I really like the look of the one called Rose Garden. Although all of them look absolutely gorgeous, I love the packaging!

These sound really good, I somehow managed to miss them on Beauty Bay. I think I’ll have to have a look when I do an order. I do love a nude lip as well, but I do really like the look of buttermilk cheesecake and goulish.
